Leica Gallery London host Nachson Mimran
Leica Gallery London are hosting Nachson Mimran, philanthropist and CEO of to.org, for his first solo exhibition which follows a decade of his life in imagery that transcends borders and cultures, capturing a diverse array of communities and landscapes spanning Bangladesh, Uganda, Ecuador, Senegal, the Swiss Alps, the Mediterranean and beyond.
"I’m honoured to collaborate with Leica on this exhibition, my first solo show, and to be sharing moments captured over the last decade on my treasured Leica Monochrom cameras. I hope that visitors to the exhibition can see my intentional use of art, culture, and creativity as a Trojan horse encouraging conversations about important topics; climate change, displacement, our attitudes to waste, and the Sustainable Development Goals." - Nachson Mimran.
The exhibition showcases 18 prints representing moments of friendship, creativity, and philanthropy. Intimate family portraits are displayed alongside community portraits from refugee settlements; a statuesque photograph of Pritzker Architecture Prize winner, Francis Kéré, hangs near a powerful image of Manari Ushigua, the leader of the Sápara Nation, in Naku in the Ecuadorian Amazon.
The exhibition invites patrons to contribute to TO:Foundation, supporting opportunities for displaced creatives in refugee settlements, such as the Performing Arts Centre which launched at the end of 2023 in Bidi Bidi refugee settlement. Those making a donation of £1,000 or more will receive a print of their choice as a token of appreciation.
The exhibition runs from the 1st-11th February at Leica Gallery London, 64-66 Duke Street, Mayfair.
